Question:

If $k - \frac{3}{k} = 5,$ then what is the value of $k^2 + \frac{9}{k^2}$ ?

Options:

31

25

11

19

Correct Answer:

31

Explanation:

If $k - \frac{3}{k} = 5,$

then what is the value of $k^2 + \frac{9}{k^2}$= ?

We know that,

If x - \(\frac{1}{x}\)  = n

then, x2 + \(\frac{1}{x^2}\)  = n2 + 2

If $k - \frac{3}{k} = 5,$

then, $k^2 + \frac{9}{k^2}$ = 52 + 2 × 3 = 31
