Question:

A female deposit 10% of her salary in PF. She saves 30% of the remaining. The ratio of her expense on medicine and groceries is 3 : 4 of the remaining salary after saving. If her expenses on the medicine is Rs. 2700, find the monthly salary.

Options:

Rs.7500

Rs.10000

Rs.15000

Rs.6500

Correct Answer:

Rs.10000

Explanation:

The correct answer is Option (2) → Rs.10000

Let the monthly salary be ₹ x.

  • She deposits 10% in PF → Remaining = 90% of x = 0.9x
  • She saves 30% of the remaining → Savings = $0.3 \times 0.9x = 0.27x$
  • Remaining for expenses = $0.9x - 0.27x = 0.63x$

Her medicine : groceries = 3 : 4, so total parts = 7

  • Medicine expense = $\frac{3}{7} \times 0.63x$

Given medicine expense = ₹2700

$\frac{3}{7} \times 0.63x = 2700$

$0.27x = 2700$

$x = \frac{2700}{0.27} = 10000$
