Question:

A future company manufactures two types of chairs: Basic Chairs and Luxury Chairs.

  • Basic Chair Requirements 4 unit of wood and 3 hours of labour.
  • Luxury Chair Requirements 5 unit of wood and 6 hours of labour.
  • The company has limited resources of wood (200 units) and labour force (150 hours).
  • Profit on Luxury chair = Rs. 200
  • Profit on Basic chair = Rs. 300

Formulate the given problem as a LPP.

Options:

$20x+300y$

$2000x+3000y$

$300x+200y$

$20x+30y$

Correct Answer:

$300x+200y$

Explanation:

The correct answer is Option (3) → $300x+200y$

Let $x$ basic chair and $y$ luxury chair is to produced.

The total profit (Z) can be expressed as:

$Z$, optimization = $300x+200y$

and, $x,y≥0$

The company has limited resources of wood and labour:

  • Wood Constraint:

    • Basic Chair requires 4 units of wood.
    • Luxury Chair requires 5 units of wood.
    • Total wood available = 200 units. The constraint for wood is:$4x+5y≤200$
  • Labour Constraint:

    • Basic Chair requires 3 hours of labour.
    • Luxury Chair requires 6 hours of labour.
    • Total labour available = 150 hours. The constraint for labour is: $3x+6y≤150$
