Question:

The two trains leave Varanasi for Lucknow at 11:00 a.m. and at 11:30 a.m., respectively and travel at a speed of 110 km/h and 140 km/h, respectively. How many kilometers from Varanasi will both trains meet ?

Options:

$255 \frac{1}{3}$ km

$238 \frac{2}{3}$ km

$246 \frac{1}{3}$ km

$256 \frac{2}{3}$ km

Correct Answer:

$256 \frac{2}{3}$ km

Explanation:

Speed of first train = 110 km/hr

Speed of second train = 140 km/hr

Relative speed(when move in same direction) = 140 - 110 = 30 km/hr

Distance cover by first train in 1/2 hr = 110 × \(\frac{1}{2}\) = 55 km

Time = \(\frac{Distance }{Speed}\)

Both the trains will meet in = \(\frac{55}{30}\) hours

Distance cover by first train in next \(\frac{55}{30}\) hours

= 140 × \(\frac{55}{30}\) = \(\frac{770}{3}\)

= 256\(\frac{2}{3}\) km
