Question:

In an election, two candidates participated. 20% of voters didn't cast their votes. 20% of the remaining are declared invalid. One candidate got 38% of the total votes and won by 9600 votes. Find the total number of voters and number of cast votes.

Options:

60,000 & 48000

70,000 & 56000

80,000 & 64000

40,000 & 32000

Correct Answer:

80,000 & 64000

Explanation:

Let Total Votes = 100

Cast votes = 100 × 80% = 80

Valid Votes = 80 × 80% = 64

Candidate A got = 38% of total votes = 38% × 100 = 38

Candidate B got = 64 - 38 = 26

A won by = 38 - 26 = 12

ATQ,

12R = 9600 (given)

1R = 800

Total Voters = 100 × 800 = 80,000

Cast votes = 80 × 800 = 64,000
