Question:

Two numbers P & Q in the ratio 5 : 3. If 2 is subtracted from each number then this ratio becomes 7 : 4. If 10 is subtracted from each of the original numbers, then the ratio of P & Q will be?

Options:

3:5

5:2

5:7

9:11

Correct Answer:

5:2

Explanation:

P = 5R

Q = 3R

 ATQ,

⇒ \(\frac{5R-2}{3R-2}\) = \(\frac{7}{4}\)

⇒ 20R - 8 = 21R - 14

⇒ R = 6

So,

P = 5 x 6 = 30

Q = 3 x 6 = 18

After subtracting 10 from each no.

P = 30 - 10 = 20

Q = 18 - 10 = 8

P : Q =  20 : 8 = 5 : 2
