A family spends ₹240 per month to buy sugar. A rise of 25% in the price of sugar compels the family to reduce the monthly consumption of sugar by 1.5 kg as it decides to spend the same amount of money on purchase of the commodity. What is the increased price per kg of sugar?

Options:

₹32

₹35

₹40

₹38

Correct Answer:

₹40

Explanation:

Price ∝ \(\frac{1}{consumption }\)

25% = \(\frac{1}{4}\)

Ratio of ,               Initial       :      New

Price                             4     :         5

Consumption                 5     :         4

According to question ,

( 5-4)R = 1.5kg

1R = 1.5 kg

4R = 1.5 × 4 = 6kg

As , Total Amount paid is same

New price of sugar = \(\frac{240}{6}\)

= 40

So , New price of sugar is 40 Rs./kg .
