Question:

The projections of  a line segment on the coordinate axes are 12, 4, 3 respectively. The length and direction cosines of the line segment are

Options:

$13; \frac{12}{13}, \frac{4}{13}, \frac{3}{13}$

$19; \frac{12}{19}, \frac{4}{19}, \frac{3}{19}$

$11; \frac{12}{11}, \frac{14}{11}, \frac{3}{11}$

none of these

Correct Answer:

$13; \frac{12}{13}, \frac{4}{13}, \frac{3}{13}$

Explanation:

Length of the line segment $= \sqrt{12^2 + 4^2 + 3^2}= 13 $

∴ Direction cosines are $\frac{12}{13}, \frac{4}{13}, \frac{3}{13}$
