In 1948, the Marshall Plan was implemented by America as a way of reviving the European economy after the Cold War. NATO was established in the year 1949 as a collective security organization of west European nations. The European Economic Community came into existence in 1957 as a result of the economic integration process. In 1992 the European Union was formalised that laid the foundation for a common foreign and security policy, cooperation on justice and home affairs, and the creation of a single currency. |
