Question:

In an examination, there were 51 boys and 48 girls. 66\(\frac{2}{3}\)% of the boys and 37.5% of the girls passed. Find the percentage of failed candidates.

Options:

44.44%

48.48%

47.47%

41.41%

Correct Answer:

47.47%

Explanation:

66\(\frac{2}{3}\)% = \(\frac{2}{3}\) and

37.5% = \(\frac{3}{8}\)

Now, ATQ

Passing boys = 51 × \(\frac{2}{3}\) = 34

Passing girls = 48 × \(\frac{3}{8}\) = 18

Failed boys = 51 - 34 = 17

Failed girls = 48 - 18 = 30

Total failed candidates = 17 + 30 = 47

Failed Percentage = \(\frac{47}{51\;+\;48}\) × 100 = \(\frac{47}{99}\) × 100 = 47.47%
