Question:

Two trains with a speed of 80 km/h and 120 km/h, respectively, are 500 km apart and face each other. Find the distance between them 10 minutes before crossing.

Options:

72.33 km

33.33 km

63.33 km

52.74 km

Correct Answer:

33.33 km

Explanation:

Train 1 speed (S1) = 80 km/h,

Train 2 speed (S2) = 120 km/h,

Distance = 500 km.

Formula to be used

Distance = speed x time.

Calculations

Relative speed = 80 + 120 = 200 km/h       .. (as they face each other)

Distance in 10 mins, i.e; \(\frac{10}{60}\)

Distance = speed x time

⇒ 200 x \(\frac{10}{60}\) = 33.33 Km
