Minhaj al-Siraj, was a 13th-century Persian historian born in the Ghurid capital city of Firuzkuh, which was located in Ghor Province.
Siraj first worked as a teacher in a madarasa under Nasiruddin Qubacha. He was brought to Delhi and provided protection by Iltutmish. In 1231, when Iltutimish attacked Gwalior, Siraj was with him. Iltutmish appointed him as Qazi and Imam of Gwalior.

Historical records suggest Minhaj-i-Siraj's birth year to be around 1193 and his death after 1266. This also coincides well with the ruling period of Iltutmish who ruled from 1211 to 1236.
