Question:

Read the below paragraph and answer the following questions;

Every substance has some magnetic properties associated with it. The origin of these properties lies in the electrons. Each electron in an atom behaves like a tiny magnet. The magnetic strength depends on the number of unpaired electron possessed by the element. On the basis of their magnetic properties, substances can be classified into five categories: (i) paramagnetic (ii) diamagnetic (iii) ferromagnetic (iv) antiferromagnetic and (v) ferrimagnetic.

What is the correct order of magnetic strength among the following elements?

Options:

Fe>Co>Ni>Cu

Fe>Cu>Ni>Co

Ni>Co>Fe>Cu

Cu>Ni>Co>Fe

Correct Answer:

Fe>Co>Ni>Cu

Explanation:

Magnetic strrength depends upon the number of unpaired electron possesed by the element. Here iron having 4 unpaired electrons, whereas Cobalt has 3 and Nickel has 2. Copper is having only 1 unpaired electrons.
