| List – I (Structures for asexual reproduction) | List – II (Example) |
| (A) Conidia | (I) Sponge |
| (B) Gemmules | (II) Hydra |
| (C) Zoospores | (III) Penicillium |
| (D) Buds | (IV) Algae |
Choose the correct answer from the options given below:
Answer & explanation
Correct answer: option 4
The correct answer is Option (4) → (A)-(III), (B)-(I), (C)-(IV), (D)-(II)
(A) Conidia — this matches (III) Penicillium. Asexual spores of the fungus.
(B) Gemmules — this matches (I) Sponge. Internal buds of sponges.
(C) Zoospores — this matches (IV) Algae. Motile spores, as in Chlamydomonas.
(D) Buds — this matches (II) Hydra. New individuals grow as outgrowths.

NCERT Extract (Pre-rationalised edition, Chapter 1, Reproduction in Organisms):
Asexual Reproduction – “… Members of the Kingdom Fungi and simple plants such as algae reproduce through special asexual reproductive structures (Figure 1.3). The most common of these structures are zoospores that usually are microscopic motile structures. Other common asexual reproductive structures are conidia (Penicillium), buds (Hydra) and gemmules (sponge).”
