Question:

In an election between 2 candidates, 80 % voters cast their votes out of which 5% votes declare invalid. A candidate got 40% of the total votes and won by 304 votes. Find the total no. of voters in the list.

Options:

7000

7600

8000

9500

Correct Answer:

7600

Explanation:

Lat the total voters = 100

Cast votes= 100 × 80% = 80

Invalid votes = 80 × 5% = 4

Valid votes = 80 - 4 = 76

Now, ATQ

Winner gets = 100 × 40% = 40

So looser gets = Valid votes - winner votes

                       = 76 - 40 = 36

Winner won by = 40 - 36 = 04 votes,

4R = 304

1R = 76

Total voters in the list was= 100 × 76 = 7600
