Choose the correct answer from the options given below :
Answer & explanation
Correct answer: option 3
The correct answer is Option (3) → (A) - (III), (B) - (I), (C) - (IV), (D) - (II)
(A) Body language — this matches (III) Non verbal actions. We communicate a great deal without words; non-verbal acts such as facial expressions, posture and gestures, which go with any talk in progress, are part of what is called body language.
(B) Paraphrase — this matches (I) Repeat or summarise in one’s own words. The listener does not repeat the speaker’s exact words but makes a summary of the ideas received and restates what she or he understood; this shows how much of the message got through.
(C) Reception — this matches (IV) The initial step in the listening process. Listening involves reception, attention, assignment of meaning and the listener’s response; reception of a stimulus or message, auditory or visual, comes first.
(D) Authenticity — this matches (II) Behavioural expressions are consistent with what one values. Authenticity, a quality of an effective counsellor, means that one’s behavioural expressions are consistent with what one values and the way one feels.
Note: Body language, paraphrasing, reception in listening and authenticity as a characteristic of an effective helper were explained in the chapter ‘Developing Psychological Skills’ of the pre-rationalised NCERT, which NTA followed in 2022, and are not there in the NCERT book (2025-26) or in the 2023-24 NCERT.
NCERT (Pre-rationalised): “Body Language … Such non-verbal acts are part of what is called ‘body language’.…” “Paraphrasing … S/he makes a summary of the ideas just received and provides you with a restatement of what s/he understands. This is called ‘paraphrasing’.…” “Reception … The initial step in the listening process is the reception of a stimulus or message.…” “Characteristics of Effective Helper … Authenticity means that your behavioural expressions are consistent with what you value and the way you feel and relate to your inner self-image.…” |
