Social Change and Development in India: Social Movements

Question:
Tebhaga movement is related to which of the following state?
Options:
Maharashtra
Madras
Punjab
Bengal
Correct Answer:
Bengal
Explanation:
Tebhaga Movement was the sharecroppers' movement demanding two thirds of the produce from land for themselves and one third for the landlords. Tebhaga literally means 'three shares' of harvests. Traditionally, sharecroppers used to hold their tenancy on fifty-fifty basis of the share of the produce. Basically from this principle demand the name 'Tebhaga' movement comes. It was a militant campaign initiated in Bengal by the Kisan Sabha (peasants front of Communist Party of India) in 1946-47.
