Average

Question:

The average of 100 numbers is 46, but it was found that 2 numbers 16 and 43 are mistakenly calculated as 61 and 34. Find his current average if it was also found that total number are only 84.

Options:

54.3

53.9

51.5

49.3

Correct Answer:

54.3

Explanation:

Sum of 100 numbers = 46 × 100 = 4600

Increase / decrease in numbers = (16+43) - (61+34)

                                               = -36

So the sum would be = 4600 - 36 = 4564

and the numbers are 84 instead of 100

                           Hence average = \(\frac{4564}{84}\) = 54.3
