The system of exchange in ancient times relied on carefully calibrated weights, typically crafted from a stone known as chert. These weights were commonly cubical in shape and did not bear any markings. The lower denominations of weights followed a binary system, with values such as 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, and so on, up to 12,800. In contrast, the higher denominations adhered to the decimal system. It is believed that the smaller weights were specifically utilized for weighing precious items like jewelry and beads.
