Question:

Points A and B are 200 km apart. A person starts from A at 10 a.m. at a speed of 10 km/h and goes towards B. Another person starts from B at 11 a.m. at a speed of 20 km/h and goes towards A. At what time will they meet?

Options:

5:10 p.m.

4:40 p.m.

5:40 p.m.

5:20 p.m.

Correct Answer:

5:20 p.m.

Explanation:

Distance = Speed × Time

Distance covered by A till 11:00 am = 10 × 1 = 10 km

Remaining Distance = 200 - 10 = 190 km

Relative Speed ( when they both move in opposite direction )

= 10 + 20 =  30 km/h

Time when they meet = \(\frac{190}{30}\)

= 6 hours + \(\frac{1}{3}\) hours

So , The time when they meet is

11:00 am + 6 hours + \(\frac{1}{3}\) hours  = 5:20 pm
