Answer & explanation
Correct answer: option 3
The correct answer is Option (3) → 2022
The Battery Waste Management Rules, 2022 were notified by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change in August 2022, replacing the Batteries (Management and Handling) Rules, 2001. They apply Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) to every kind of battery: producers must collect and recycle the batteries they sell, with minimum targets for recovering materials and for using recycled material in new batteries.
Note: This ‘current affairs’ question calls rules from 2022 recent, almost four years before this May 2026 paper. Plenty of batteries have run flat since 2022; NTA’s idea of “recently” is still fully charged.
