| English barristers had gained a strong position in the legal profession. In order to address the inequalities, present in the legal profession, the Government of India established the Indian Bar Committee in 1923. The Committee recommended that a Bar Council must established for each of the High Courts. The Committee recommended that a Bar Council be given the authority to establish rules regarding things like eligibility and admission of individuals to be Advocates of the concerned High Court, legal education, discipline, and professional conduct of Advocates, conditions under which Advocates of another High Court could occasionally appear in the concerned High Court, and any other matter prescribed by the High Court. |
