Question:

A shopkeeper sold two articles for Rs. 9471 each. In article one, he gained 23% and in another, he lost 23%. What is his overall loss or gain ( in Rs.)

Options:

1058

2053

1054

1538

Correct Answer:

1058

Explanation:

Gain of 23% = \(\frac{23 → gain}{100 → CP }\)

       = \(\frac{SP}{CP}\) = \(\frac{123}{100}\)

S.P.  = 123R → 9471

1R = 77, 100R = 7700/- (C.P.1)

Loss = 23% = \(\frac{23}{100}\)

       = \(\frac{SP}{CP}\) = \(\frac{77}{100}\)

77R → 9471

1R → 123, 100R = 12300/-(CP2)

Total C.P. of 2 = 12300 + 7700 = 20,000/-

Overall gain = 20000 - (2 × 9471) = 1058
