Question:

A person travels from P to Q at a speed of 50 km/h and returns by increasing his speed by 60%. What is his average speed for both the trips?

Options:

35.61 km/h

61.53 km/h

31.56 km/h

16.53 km/h

Correct Answer:

61.53 km/h

Explanation:

Initial Speed  = 50 km/hr

Increased speed = 50 + 60% of 50

50 + \(\frac{3}{5}\) × 50 = 80km/hr

Average speed = \(\frac{2ab}{a+b}\)

= \(\frac{2 × 50 × 80 }{50+80}\)

= 61.53 km/h
