Which of the following are economic activities?
(A) Mining and Quarrying
(B) Construction
(C) Sun Rays
(D) Transport and Storage
Choose the correct answer from the options given below:
Answer & explanation
Correct answer: option 1
The correct answer is Option (1) → (A), (B) and (D) only
A miner digging coal or a driver carrying goods produces goods or services and earns a living by it; such work is an economic activity. For the study of employment, all economic activities are grouped into eight industrial divisions: agriculture; mining and quarrying; manufacturing; electricity, gas and water supply; construction; trade; transport and storage; and services.
(A) Mining and Quarrying Included. It is the second of the eight divisions, and along with agriculture it belongs to the primary sector.
(B) Construction Included. Construction is one of the divisions of the secondary sector, together with manufacturing and electricity, gas and water supply.
(C) Sun Rays Not included. Sunlight is a free gift of nature. Nobody produces it or earns an income by providing it, so it is not an activity at all. Using solar energy to make electricity would be an economic activity, but the rays themselves are not.
(D) Transport and Storage Included. Transport and storage is one of the divisions of the tertiary or service sector, together with trade and services.
