Question:

The average age of a group of 35 persons was 52 years, Five persons left the group and due to this the average age of the remaining persons in the group increased by 3 years. What is the average age ( in years) of the persons who left the group ?

Options:

34

38

42

43

Correct Answer:

34

Explanation:

Average age = \(\frac{Total \;age \;of\; all }{Total \;number\;of \;person}\)

52 = \(\frac{Total \;age \;of\; all }{35}\)

Sum of age of 35 persons = 52 × 35

= 1820

Five person left the group , Number of remaining persons = 35 - 5 = 30

( 52 + 3 ) = \(\frac{Total \;age \;of\; all }{30}\)

1650 = Total age of 30 persons

Age of 5 persons who left the group = 1820 - 1650 = 170

Average age of these 5 persons = \(\frac{170 }{5}\)

= 34

The correct answer is option (1) : 34
