All the shareholders paid the call due on May 01, 2024 with the exception of an allottee of 500 shares. These shares were forfeited on September 29, 2024 and reissued as fully paid at ₹8 per share on November 01, 2024. The company, as a matter of policy, does not maintain a calls-in-arrears account.
What is the amount of Profit on reissue of Forfeited Shares Accounts transferred to capital reserve?
Answer & explanation
Correct answer: option 4
The correct answer is Option (4) → Rs. 2,500
After forfeited shares are reissued, whatever is left in Shares Forfeiture Account on those shares is a capital profit, and it is transferred to Capital Reserve.
Amount forfeited on 500 shares (credited to Shares Forfeiture A/c) = Rs. 3,500
Less: discount on reissue (debited to Shares Forfeiture A/c) = Rs. 1,000
Profit on reissue = Rs. 3,500 − Rs. 1,000 = Rs. 2,500
The entry: Shares Forfeiture A/c Dr. Rs. 2,500; To Capital Reserve Rs. 2,500. Since all 500 forfeited shares were reissued, the whole balance goes to Capital Reserve.
