Admission of a Partner

Question:

Abhiram and Ragini are partners sharing profits in the ratio of 3:2. They admit Arun a new partner for 1/5th share in the future profits of the firm which he gets equally from Abhiram and Ragini. Calculate the new profit sharing ratio of Abhiram, Ragini and Arun.

Options:

5:2:3

5:3:2

2:3:5

4:3:3

Correct Answer:

5:3:2

Explanation:

The correct answer is option 2- 5:3:2.

Old ratio = 3:2 (Abhiram and Ragini)

Arun = 1/5th
Arun gets equally from Abhiram and Ragini.

Sacrificed share of each partner = 1/5 x 1/2
                                               = 1/10

New share = Old share - Sacrificed share

New share of Abhiram = 3/5 - 1/10
                                 = (6-1)/10
                                 = 5/10

New share of Ragini = 2/5 - 1/10
                              = (4-1)/10
                              = 3/10

Share of Arun = 1/5 or 2/10

New ratio = 5/10 : 3/10 : 2/10
               = 5:3:2
