Match List - I with List - II.
| List - I | List - II |
| (A) Aluminium | (I) Calamine |
| (B) Iron | (II) Bauxite |
| (C) Copper | (III) Malachite |
| (D) Zinc | (IV) Siderite |
Choose the correct answer from the options given below :
Answer & explanation
Correct answer: option 1
The correct answer is Option (1) → (A)-(II), (B)-(IV), (C)-(III), (D)-(I)
An ore is a mineral from which a metal can be extracted profitably. Most ores are oxides, carbonates or sulphides of the metal:
(A) Aluminium — This matches (II) Bauxite. Bauxite, AlOx(OH)3−2x (0 < x < 1), is the ore chosen for aluminium.
(B) Iron — This matches (IV) Siderite. Siderite is iron(II) carbonate, \( \ce{FeCO3} \); the other iron ores are haematite \( \ce{Fe2O3} \), magnetite \( \ce{Fe3O4} \) and iron pyrites \( \ce{FeS2} \).
(C) Copper — This matches (III) Malachite. Malachite is basic copper carbonate, \( \ce{CuCO3} \)·\( \ce{Cu(OH)2} \).
(D) Zinc — This matches (I) Calamine. Calamine is zinc carbonate, \( \ce{ZnCO3} \); zinc blende ZnS and zincite ZnO are the other zinc ores.
Note: This question is from the pre-rationalised NCERT book (2022-23). The topic is not there in the latest NCERT book (2026-27), and it is also out of the CUET 2026 syllabus.

Occurrence of Metals (rows of Table 6.1: Principal Ores of Some Important Metals)
| Metal | Ores | Composition |

| Iron | Siderite | FeCO3 |
| Copper | Malachite | CuCO3.Cu(OH)2 |
| Zinc | Calamine | ZnCO3 |
