Question:

Copper and bronze are in the ratio 3 : 4 in 350 gm of an alloy. The quantity (in gm) of copper to be added to it to make the ratio 4 : 3 is:

Options:

116.67 gm

126.67 gm

123.33 gm

113.33 gm

Correct Answer:

116.67 gm

Explanation:

Initial mixture,

Copper : Bronze

    3     :      4

⇒ (3 + 4)x = 350 gm

⇒ 7x = 350

⇒ x = 50,

⇒ Copper = 3 x 50 = 150 gm, Bronze = 4 x 50 = 200 gm,

⇒ Amount of copper that should be added to make ration 4 : 3,

⇒ 3x = 200,

⇒ x = \(\frac{200}{3}\)

⇒ 4x = 4 x \(\frac{200}{3}\)

⇒ 4x = 266.67

⇒ 266.67 - 150 = 116.67.

Hence, Amount of copper that should be added to make ration 4 : 3 is 116.67 gm.
