Question:

The salaries of Raju and Peter are in the ratio 3 : 5. If the salary of each is increased by ₹2,500, then the new ratio is 11 : 15. What is Peter's salary?

Options:

₹3,500

₹2,500

₹4,000

₹5,000

Correct Answer:

₹5,000

Explanation:

Here,

Ratio of salaries of Raju and Peter = 3 : 5

Ratio after increasing both the salaries by Rs. 2500 = 11 : 15

⇒ To compare both ratios, we multiply initial with 2,

⇒ (3 : 5) x 2 = 6 : 10

⇒ 15 - 10 = 5 units = Rs. 2500

⇒ 1 unit = Rs. 500

Salary of Peter before the increase = 10 x 500 = Rs. 5000.
