Question:

The table given below shows the expenditure on six articles by two families A and B.

Which of the following statements is NOT correct?

(I) The expenditure on article R by A is 28.56% more than the expenditure on Q by B.

(II) The difference between average expenditure on article P and Q by A and the average expenditure on R and S by B is 20.

Options:

Only II

Both I and II

Only I

Neither I nor II

Correct Answer:

Only I

Explanation:

(I)The expenditure on article R by A =  80

The expenditure on Q by B = 70

Thus, the expenditure on article R by A is $\frac{10}{70}$ x 100 = 14.28%  more than the expenditure on Q by B.

(II)  Average expenditure on article P and Q by A = $\frac{Sum}{2}$

                                           = $\frac{40+60}{2}$ = 50

Average expenditure on R and S by B is 20 = $\frac{Sum}{2}$

                                           = $\frac{90+50}{2}$ = 70

Their difference = 20

Thus, statement II is correct
