Arrange the following steps of regulation of gene expression in eukaryotes in correct sequence.
A. Processing level
B. Transport of mRNA from nucleus to the cytoplasm
C. Transcriptional level
D. Translational level
Choose the correct answer from the options given below:
Answer & explanation
Correct answer: option 2
The correct answer is Option (2) → C, A, B, D
(C) Transcriptional level — First. Gene expression starts when the gene is copied into a primary transcript. This is the first point where it can be controlled.
(A) Processing level — Second. The primary transcript is then processed inside the nucleus. Splicing removes the introns and joins the exons. This can also be controlled.
(B) Transport of mRNA from nucleus to the cytoplasm — Third. Only the processed mRNA is moved out of the nucleus to the cytoplasm, where the ribosomes are.
(D) Translational level — Fourth. In the cytoplasm the mRNA is translated into a protein on the ribosomes. This is the last step of gene expression.
