Question:

The LCM of two numbers is 168 and their HCF is 12. If the difference between the numbers is 60, what is the sum of the numbers?

Options:

112

116

108

122

Correct Answer:

108

Explanation:

⇒ (Product of two other factors) × HCF = LCM

⇒ (a × b) × 12 = 168

⇒ (a × b) = 14

So a and b = 7 and 2

Therefore, numbers are:

= (a × HCF), (b × HCF)

= (7 × 12), (2 × 12) = 84 , 24

ATQ,

Difference = 84 - 24 = 60 (given)

So, Sum of two numbers = 84 + 24 = 108
