Most rivers of peninsular India flow east into the Bay of Bengal. The Mahanadi, the Krishna and the Kaveri are such east flowing rivers. Only a few rivers, such as the Narmada and the Tapi, flow west into the Arabian Sea. The Tapi basin lies just south of the Narmada basin.
