Question:

In △ABC, D and E are the points on sides AB and AC, respectively and DE ∥ BC. BC = 8 cm and DE = 5 cm. If the area of △ADE = 45 cm2, then what is the area (in cm2) of △ABC ?

Options:

115.2

105.2

125

64

Correct Answer:

115.2

Explanation:

Calculations

Length of DE = 5 cm

Therefore, Area of ADE is \( {5 }^{2 } \) = 25

Length of BC = 8 cm

Therefore, Area of BC is \( {8 }^{2 } \) = 64

According to the question

= 25 = 45

Therefore, 64 = \(\frac{45 \;×\; 64}{25}\)

Therefore, area of \(\Delta \)ABC is 115.2 cm.
