Question:

In an election between two candidates, a candidate who gets 64% of the votes polled is elected by a majority of 252 votes. What is the total number of votes polled?

Options:

950

900

850

800

Correct Answer:

900

Explanation:

Let us assume that 100% of votes are polled

Since, the winning candidate gets = 64% votes of polled votes

Hence, the other candidate gets = 36% votes of the polled votes.

⇒ Difference = (64 - 36) = 28% of polled  votes.

Now, According to the question winning candidate got the majority of votes = 252

 28% of polled votes  = 252

 100% polled votes = \(\frac{252}{28}\) × 100 = 900
