| C. | Transducer | III. | A combination of a receiver and a transmitter |
| D. | Signal | IV. | portion of the spectrum occupied by the signal |
Choose the correct answer from the options given below:
Answer & explanation
Correct answer: option 2
The correct answer is Option (2) → A-III, B-IV, C-I, D-II
A communication system has a transmitter, a channel and a receiver. Each term in List I names one part or one property of such a system.
(A) Repeater — this matches (III) A combination of a receiver and a transmitter. A repeater picks up the signal, amplifies it and sends it out again, so it extends the range of the system; it receives like a receiver and retransmits like a transmitter.
(B) Bandwidth — this matches (IV) portion of the spectrum occupied by the signal. The bandwidth is the range of frequencies over which the signal is spread, for example about 3 kHz for speech.
(C) Transducer — this matches (I) converts one form of energy into another. A microphone (sound to electrical energy) and a loudspeaker (electrical to sound energy) are transducers.
(D) Signal — this matches (II) information converted in electrical form and suitable for transmission. Speech, music or data is first changed into an electrical signal, which can then be sent over the channel.
Note: This question is from the pre-rationalised NCERT book (2022-23). The topic was removed from the latest NCERT book (2026-27), and it also appears to be out of the CUET 2026 syllabus.
