The Mughal Emperor granted the Diwani of Bengal, Bihar and Orissa to the East India Company in 1765.

The Santhal Revolt took place in 1855-56. Santhals are a tribal group concentrated in the state of Jharkhand. This was the first peasant revolt that occurred in India.

In May and June 1875, peasants of Maharashtra in some parts of Pune and Ahmednagar districts revolted against increasing agrarian distress. They were referred to as the Deccan Riots of 1875.
