Question:

‘A’ and ‘B’ are two stations 494 km apart. A train starts from station ‘A’ at 3 p.m. and travels towards station ‘B’ at 83 km/h. Another train starts from station ‘B’ at 4 p.m. and travels towards station ‘A’ at 54 km/h. At what time do they meet?

Options:

7 p.m.

7 a.m.

8 p.m.

9 a.m.

Correct Answer:

7 p.m.

Explanation:

Distance covered by A till 4:00 pm = Speed × Time

= 82 × 1 = 83 km

Remaining Distance = 494 - 83 = 411 km

At 4:00 pm B also starts moving towards A

Relative speed ( when moves in direction) = 83 + 54 = 137 km/h

Time = \(\frac{Distance}{Speed}\)

= \(\frac{411}{137}\) = 3 hours

So , they will meet after 3 hours .

i.e 4:00 pm + 3 hours = 7:00 pm
