A Zomato boy started from his office at 9 am to deliver food.  He rode his scooter at a speed of 40 km/h.  He delivered the food and waited for 12 minutes to get the payment.  After the payment was made, he reached his office at 10:50 am traveling at a speed of 30 km/h.  Find the total distance traveled (in km) by the boy?

Explanation:

Let, the distance between two points is x km

Start time 09 : 00 am

Finish time 10 : 50 am

Total time = 1 + \(\frac{50}{60}\) = 1 + \(\frac{5}{6}\) = \(\frac{11}{6}\) h

ATQ,

\(\frac{x}{40}\)hrs  + 12 min + \(\frac{x}{30}\)hrs = \(\frac{11}{6}\)hrs

\(\frac{x}{40}\) + \(\frac{12}{60}\) + \(\frac{x}{30}\) = \(\frac{11}{6}\)

\(\frac{3x + 24 + 4x}{120}\) = \(\frac{11}{6}\)

⇒ 7x + 24 = 220

⇒ 7x = 196

⇒  x = 28

Distance traveled by boy = 2x = 2 × 28 = 56 km
