Molar conductance at infinite dilution of Mg(NO3)2, H2SO4 and HNO3 solution in water are x, y and z respectively. What is the Molar conductance of MgSO4 solution?

x - y + z

Correct Answer:

x + y - 2z

Explanation:

Mg(NO3)2 ⇔ Mg2+ + 2NO3    

ΛMg(NO3)2 = ΛMg2+ + 2ΛNO3-    

x = ΛMg2+ + 2ΛNO3-    .......(i)

H2SO⇔ 2H+ + SO42-

ΛH2SO4 = 2ΛH+ ΛSO42-

y = 2ΛH+ ΛSO42-      .......(ii)

HNO⇔ H+ + NO3

ΛHNO3 = ΛH+ + ΛNO3- 

z = ΛH+ + ΛNO3-        .......(iii)

On Applying (i) + (ii) - 2(iii), we get

ΛMgSO4 = x + y - 2z
