As Indian economy was an agrarian economy, Britishers knew that the maximum revenue can be generated from this sector only. Thus, they introduced land revenue settlement system. Zamindari system was one of its type which snatched the ownership of the farmers and gave it to Zamindars. Eventually, these zamindars exploited farmers by charging them with high percentage of taxes.
