Question:

A playground is in the shape of a trapezium.  Rs. 1000 was spend to make ground even at the rate of 25 paisa per sq. m.  The height of field is equal to 50 m. If length of longer parallel side of playground is 30 m more than other, then find length of longer parallel sides?

Options:

75 cm

65 cm

95 cm

80 cm

Correct Answer:

95 cm

Explanation:

area of trapezium = \(\frac{Total\;expenditure}{rate\: per\: sq.m}\)

                             =  \(\frac{1000}{0.25}\) = 4000m2

area of trapezium = \(\frac{1}{2}\)(sum of parallel sides) × height

⇒ 4000 = \(\frac{1}{2}\)(a + a+ 30) × 50                  {assuming parallel sides = a cm , a+30cm}

2a = 130,

a = 65

Parallel sides are = 65,  65 + 30 = 95cm
