Question:

How many "Biodiversity Hotspots" are there in the World?

Options:

34

37

35

33

Correct Answer:

34

Explanation:

As per NCERT , Initially 25 biodiversity hotspots were identified but subsequently nine more have been added to the list, bringing the total number of biodiversity hotspots in the world to 34.

But as of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021, there are 36 recognized biodiversity hotspots in the world. These hotspots are specific regions that are exceptionally rich in biodiversity but also face significant threats and are at risk of high levels of habitat loss and species extinction. Biodiversity hotspots are identified based on criteria such as the number of endemic species (species found nowhere else), levels of habitat loss, and degree of threat.
