Question:

A railway half-ticket costs half the full ticket. However the reservation charge for all the tickets is constant. One full reserved ticket for a journey is ₹525. If the cost of one full and one half reserved ticket for the same journey is ₹850, then what is the reservation charge per ticket?

Options:

₹120

₹150

₹125

₹115

Correct Answer:

₹125

Explanation:

Let the reservation charges = x

One full reserved ticket for a journey = ₹525.

Then Ticket amount = 525 - x

If the cost of one full and one half reserved ticket for the same journey = ₹850

Then we can say that,

(525 - x) + \(\frac{(525 - x)}{2}\) + 2x = ₹850

= 1050 - 2x + 525 - x + 4x = 1700

= 1575 + x = 1700

= x = 1700 - 1575 = 125
