Question:

A vessel of 80 ltrs is filled with milk and water. 60% of milk and 40% of water are taken out of the vessel and it is found that the vessel is empty by 55%. After that \(\frac{1}{12}\)th part of the rest mixture poured into another vessel and the same quantity of water is added in the mixture. What will the new ratio of water and milk in the vessel?

Options:

5 : 8

8 : 5

11 : 7

7 : 11

Correct Answer:

7 : 11

Explanation:

Initial Qty of Milk and water was = 60 ltrs and 20 ltrs resp.

Remaining qty in the vessel :

Milk ⇒ 40% of 60 = 24 ltrs

Water ⇒ 60% of 20 = 12 ltrs

Total Remaining = 24 + 12 = 36 ltrs

Now,

Afterward taken qty. = 36 × \(\frac{1}{12}\) = 3 ltrs

Qty of Milk and Water poured into the new vessel in the ratio =  24 : 12 = 2 : 1

Remaining Milk = 24 - 2 = 22

and water = 12 - 1 = 11

Therefore, the qty of milk and water after adding 3 ltrs water in the mixture:

Milk = 22 ltrs

Water = 11 + 3 = 14 ltrs

New Ratio will be :- Water : Milk = 14 : 22 = 7 : 11
