The 14 principles of management propounded by Fayol were discussed in detail in his book published in 1917, ‘Administration industrielle et generale’. These principles were proposed by Henri Fayol. These principles are as follows-
1) Division of Work: Specialization allows the individual to build up experience and improve continuously.
2) Authority and Responsibility:
The right to issue commands and power to exact obedience.
3) Discipline: No slacking, bending of rules.
4) Unity of Command: Each employee should receive orders from only one superior.
5) Unity of Direction: One head and one plan for a group of activities with the same objective.
6) Subordination of Individual Interests to the General Interest: The interests of any one employee or group of employees should not take precedence over the interests of the organization as a whole.
7) Remuneration of Employees: Fair compensation for both employees and employers.
8) Centralization and Decentralization: The degree to which subordinates are involved in decision-making.
9) Scalar Chain: A clear and unbroken line of authority from the top to the bottom.
10) Order: Materials and people should be in the right place at the right time.
11) Equity: Fairness and kindness in dealing with employees.
12) Stability of Personnel: High employee turnover is inefficient; it takes time for employees to adapt to their roles.
13) Initiative: Employees who are allowed to originate and carry out plans will exert high levels of effort.
14) Esprit de Corps: Harmony, cohesion among personnel.
