Correct Answer:

A-II, B-I, C-IV, D-III

Explanation:

The correct answer is Option (1)- A-II, B-I, C-IV, D-III

List I

Organism

List II

Product

A. Streptococcus II. Streptokinase
B. Aspergillus niger I.Citric acid
C. Monascus purpureus IV. Statin
D. Saccharomyces cerevisiae III. Ethanol

Streptokinase produced by the bacterium Streptococcus and modified by genetic engineering is used as a ‘clot buster’ for removing clots from the blood vessels of patients who have undergone myocardial infarction leading to heart attack.

Microbes are also used for commercial and industrial production of certain chemicals like organic acids, alcohols and enzymes. Examples of acid producers are Aspergillus niger (a fungus) of citric acid.

Statins produced by the yeast Monascus purpureus have been commercialised as blood-cholesterol lowering agents. It acts by competitively inhibiting the enzyme responsible for synthesis of cholesterol .

Ethanol also known as ethyl alcohol, is commonly produced through the process of fermentation. Fermentation involves the conversion of sugars into alcohol and carbon dioxide by the action of microorganisms, typically yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) .
