Question:

Which of the following hormone helps in ovulation?

Options:

Oxytocin

Testosterone

LH

All of the above

Correct Answer:

LH

Explanation:
  • Ovulation, the release of a mature egg from the ovary, is primarily regulated by the hormone luteinizing hormone (LH), which is produced and released by the pituitary gland. The secretion of gonadotropins (LH and FSH) increases gradually during the follicular phase, and stimulates follicular development as well as secretion of estrogens by the growing follicles. Both LH and FSH attain a peak level in the middle of cycle (about 14th day). Rapid secretion of LH leading to its maximum level during the mid-cycle called LH surge induces rupture of Graafian follicle and thereby the release of ovum (ovulation).
  • Oxytocin is a natural hormone that manages key aspects of the female and male reproductive systems, including labor and delivery and lactation, as well as aspects of human behavior.
  • Testosterone is the primary male hormone responsible for regulating sex differentiation, producing male sex characteristics, spermatogenesis, and fertility.
